Hitachi G12VE 4-1/2″ AC Brushless Variable Speed Angle Grinder Review

Variable Speed Grinder

Hitachi has been innovating corded AC brushless tools with an internal inverter circuit that regulates power.  That makes these tools ideal for construction because they can run at full power on a long extension cord or on a generator with an uneven power supply.  These tools have shown to have excellent quality and boast a long maintenance free life.

The Hitachi G12VE 4-1/2″ 12-Amp angle grinder holds true to the durability and ultimate jobsite performance of the other AC brushless Hitachi tools we have tested. It utilizes zero voltage restart protection that prevents it from restarting if power is temporarily lost while the tool is in operation.  The G12VE also features a variable speed switch to set the RPMs to suit the application.  Because of the variable speed, this grinder stands out when using it for stone polishing, surface finishing, rust and paint removal, light grinding, concrete finishing, wire cup and wire wheel applications.

Ultimate Grinder

For many users, an angle grinder can be a fairly rough tool because most are a single 10,000 rpm speed unit.  Hitachi has opened this angle grinder up to many other users because of the variable speed.  Using the tool at a low RPM allows for precision sanding, blending and even applications in woodworking.  This angle grinder is a makers tool that will provide a long maintenance free life.

The internal electronics sense when a load is applied and it works to keep the RPM’s in the same rage to there is very little lag, even at low RPM.  The internal inverter also helps to regulate unstable power.  That allows this tool to be used, without harm, with long extension cords or generators that might have low voltage.

If you do not own a variable speed grinder, this is a very nice affordable unit that will quickly become your go to grinder!

Ohh at the price of $176.00, I’ll stick with my Harbor freight $15.00 grinder. It works just fine for my needs ! I discovered them when the gears in my Dewalt grinder went out . For the price it cost to fix it I bought two grinders from Harbor Freight and I’ve used them now for many years without an issue.

Never seen the variable speed mini grinder from Harbor Freight. I’ve used one fro HF that was 10 bux and worked for years. I can’t find the variable speed one. If you have more info on the HF variable speed grinder, it would be much appreciated.

Yes your correct Ned, they don’t have a variable speed version ! Haven’t had much need for variable speed on any tool that I own, so for me having variable speed is almost never a consideration.

Hi. Do you know if you can fit a 5 inch grinding disk with the safe guard?
