    Noob looking for answers

Hi there, hoping someone can help me out here. I've Googled a bit, but can't find anything I can understand... A friend gave me a bunch of welding rods, and I'm battling to make any decent welds with them using my fragram oil tub welder, no matter what amperage I set it at. 40,90 or 140, makes no difference.

Ive read that 6013 are generally the easiest rods to weld with, but these don't have that kind of marking on them. All I see is OK 68.81/312.

Another question... The thickness of the rod, is that measured on the coated part of the rod, or the thinner, steel part that gets held onto?

    Thanks guys
