How to manually test this sprinkler valve?

I have two kinds. These and others with a thumb screw to open them up, but these don't have anything I can find. Thanks.

By manual, could we find the voltage and apply the voltage from another source?

Most are 12 volt, so a car battery or charger could open the solenoid.

I'm thinking that most of the commercial/residential ones like Hunters and/or Orbits are actaully 24v AC. I know the ones I've gotten from Home Depot and Lowes have been. Found it out the hard way when I had a fun little project, most of the parts for it, and started playing... Only to realize that my Edison voltage wasn't working so well on my Tesla valve.

Wait, I just learned it's a pump, of which I just have that one, then these 5 valves for 5 stations(? I thought I had six). Does this look like the setup? 5 stations/valve and one pump? If so how do I test manually the two valves? The set of three have thumb screws. thanks

I'm talking manual by hand hand literally, no electricity. As the set of 3 allows. So now I'm just trying to figure out the two set in the pic. That first pic is a pump as a HD employee told me

The ones I've messed around with didn't have a manual method. Everything was sealed up and only wires coming out of 'em.
