    Air Compressor Question (hp/air delivery)

About 12 years ago I bought a compressor that I’m thinking of replacing. First I should describe it, so I can mention features I like about it.

I bought it second-hand and in good condition, not used much at all. I think it’s about 25 years old, and I believe its brand-new price was around $600 cdn. (Yeah, Canuck dollar went further then!) It’s a deVilbiss, model F5030. It’s a single-stage compressor, tank is 30 gal. Air-delivery shown on the spec plate are: 8.8 SCFM @ 40 psi, 6.9 SCFM @ 90 psi; max pressure 125 psi. The motor runs on 120v and is rated at 5 hp — though I do question what this means, because newer compressors with similar size tanks often have a 2 - 2.5 hp motor (stated power rating).
    Air Compressor Question (hp/air delivery)-compressor.jpg
I use the compressor mainly for air tools, a small sandblasting unit, inflating tires and very occasionally for spraying finishes. I like these horizontal units on wheels, as to some extent I have moved the position from time to time. My compressor is for non-professional use, and overall it gets moderate use in a year. But this one I have was rebuilt about six years ago and seems like it will require another rebuild this year, if I don’t replace it.

I’m posting because of a couple things. First, I need to understand this “horsepower” thing. Like, is my current unit inaccurately rated as to hp? Second, if so, then why are units of similar tank size and CFM rating being sold with smaller electric motors?

Second, I’d be looking for durability, not some cheap-junk replacement unit. So brands?

Any help will be gratefully received, guys. Thanks.

My first question is how much are you willing to spend?
    WHAT IS AN ASKHOLE?

A person who constantly asks for your advice,
yet always does the exact opposite of what you told them.

Well, I'll start by suggesting $1500-2000. For an oiled (not oil-less) 30 gal, 120v unit. Possible? Or am I dreaming?
